On July 2, 1988, Henan Province Luanchuan Molybdenum Mine merged with Luanchuan County Molybdenum Company to establish CHINA MOLYBDENUM Company, which was renamed as CHINA MOLYBDENUM (GROUP) CO., LTD. on October 26, 1989

On January 15, 1999, CHINA MOLYBDENUM (GROUP) CO., LTD. merged with Luanchuan County Metallurgy and Chemical Company to establish CHINA MOLYBDENUM CO., LTD. (CMOC for short)

In 2002, CMOC cooperated with Russian Design Institute for Nonferrous Metallurgy Industry and mastered scheelite recycling technology successfully, making over 30 years of CMOC dream about scheelite recycling technology come true

In 2004, led by Luanchuan County Party Committee and County Government, CMOC restructured and changed from a traditional state-owned enterprise to a mixed ownership enterprise of state-owned holding and privately-owned participation after Cathay Fortune Corporation becoming its shareholder

On August 25, 2006, after being approved by State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Luoyang, "CHINA MOLYBDENUM CO., LTD." completed sharing reform as a whole and was renamed "CHINA MOLYBDENUM Corporation"

In June 2012, after being researched and approved by Luoyang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, Cathay Fortune Corporation was authorized to manage CMOC and transform the operational system. The company underwent transformation from state-owned holding to privately-owned dominated system

On December 1, 2013, CMOC acquired 80% of rights and interests of Northparkes copper-gold mine in New South Wales, Australia, from RioTinto at 820 million dollars

On January 1, 2014, Cathay Fortune Corporation became the first majority shareholder of CMOC in marketized way and completed operational system transformation from state-owned holding to public asset dominance, which became a major breakthrough in mixed state-owned enterprise system reform

On April 28, 2016, CMOC acquired niobium and phosphorus businesses of Anglo American in Brazil at 1.5 billion dollars and completed handover on October 1, 2016. In 10 May, 2016, CMOC acquired 56% of stock right of Congo Tenke held by Freeport-McMoRan Group at 2.65 billion dollars and completed handover officially on November 17, 2016
